Magna Carta Mardi Gras, Ryde, 27 June
Final Line up confirmed. 30 entries from schools and community groups telling the story of the British People towards Democracy. Meet King John and the Barons, Simon de Montfort, Richard II, as never before. Emmeline Pankhurst and Emily Wilding Davison campaigning for Votes for Women, Peace Protesters, Gay Pride marchers and other significant times and movements that have shaped who we are today and defined our freedoms.
The Magna Carta Mardi Gras is part of a nation-wide programme of cultural activity called Parliament in the Making, co-ordinated by the 2015 historic anniversaries programme at the Houses of Parliament to celebrate the 800th Anniversary of the Sealing of Magna Carta. The New Carnival Company is grateful for their support and also to the Heritage Lottery Fund for their contribution to the learning programme which has underpinned the design and creation of the costumes on parade.
