IW Mardi Gras – Learning through Carnival Arts

The New Carnival Company are proud to launch their new short film: IW Mardi Gras -Learning Through Carnival Arts.

Filmed and edited by Julian Langham, it documents the preparations for Mardi Gras 2014 ‘Natural Geographic’ within two schools on the Island, Ryde Junior School and Binstead Primary School and follows dance rehearsals for the big event with Viva Integrated Carnival Club and London School of Samba. The New Carnival Company hopes that the film will encourage other schools to come on board with Carnival and embrace the breadth and depth of carnival’s richness and diversity in their curricula. The filming was commissioned as part of Arts Council England’s Catalyst programme, which aims to increase awareness and profile of carnival as a valid and valued art form in order to build investment and support for the sector through corporate partnerships and private giving.

You can see the wonderful short film here. It only takes 2.5 minutes – please share it!
