Enriching lives, connecting communities

Hooray for Hays!

The New Carnival Company is celebrating a new sponsorship arrangement with the UK’s largest independent travel agency, Hays Travel.

Hays are supporting the NCC’s integrated carnival club project, VIVA – Valuing Individuals, Valuing All. The club was set up in 2012 to ensure that disabled and non-disabled people could work together to create high quality carnival presentations inspired by the London Olympics.

Since then, the club has gone from strength to strength and has performed at a number of events including the annual IW Mardi Gras, Ryde Carnival and the Southsea Show.

The sponsorship from Hays Travel will cover the cost of VIVA’s weekly club venue at Haylands Farm.  In September 2015, the Isle of Wight Council withdrew all arts funding across the Island including venue support to both the NCC and VIVA. With no venue available for club, the organisation has not met since September, a great disappointment to the membership as well as the communities that enjoy the fruits of their activities.

Marcus Elems, Chair of the club explained “now that we have a permanent base for our activities we are looking to recruit new members”.

Chis Slann, Executive Director at the NCC added “As well as a year-round carnival club which contributes to many local events through costumed performance, we are launching a new VIVA samba drum class after Easter.  Anyone interested in either should call us for further details on 716095”.  “It is only with the support of organisations like Hays Travel that The New Carnival Company can continue to offer such a diverse range of creative activities.
